Our History

It was in 1984 that Tony Hillier had the vision for The Family Trust based on Nehemiah’s mission to re-build the walls of Jerusalem. The first Schools Workers were employed through St Luke’s Church in 1985 and in 1988 we officially became a registered charity.

Chequer Tree Camp launched in 1986 and continues to run as a residential camp in the summer.

In 2000, we started to serve schools in Medway and expanded into Swale in 2006.

Our secondary school provision was formed in 2004 and currently serves schools in Maidstone.

In 2018, our work in the voluntary sector was recognised by the Kent Charity Awards and we were awarded ‘Voluntary Charity of the Year’.

The Covid pandemic impacted our ability to work face-to-face in schools, so in 2020, we launched our YouTube channel, FT:tv, bringing our team into classrooms, digitally.

Today, we continue to serve secondary schools in Maidstone and primary schools across

Maidstone, Medway and Swale.
