Our History

It was in 1984 that Tony Hillier had the vision for The Family Trust based on Nehemiah’s mission to re-build the walls of Jerusalem. The first Schools Workers were employed through St Luke’s Church in 1985 and in 1988 we officially became a registered charity.

​

Chequer Tree Camp launched in 1986 and continues to run as a residential camp in the summer.

​

In 2000, we started to serve schools in Medway and expanded into Swale in 2006.

​

Our secondary school provision was formed in 2004 and currently serves schools in Maidstone.

​

In 2018, our work in the voluntary sector was recognised by the Kent Charity Awards and we were awarded ‘Voluntary Charity of the Year’.

​

The Covid pandemic impacted our ability to work face-to-face in schools, so in 2020, we launched our YouTube channel, FT:tv, bringing our team into classrooms, digitally.

​

Today, we continue to serve secondary schools in Maidstone and primary schools across

Maidstone, Medway and Swale.
