As part of our role as a resource to churches in the town, the Family Trust have set up a training course which is aimed at enabling children’s workers across the town to realise their full potential in the vital work that they are doing.

The course contains six modules and some of which contain two sessions per module. These are: - Story Telling, Applications, Programme Planning, Praying with Children, Behaviour Management and Games. The course is arranged over six months and students are asked to attend one two-hour session per month, either on a Saturday morning from 9.30 – 11.30 or a Monday evening from 7.30 – 9.30. Each session will be followed up during the month with an assessment; a member of the Family Trust team will visit each student at their group to assess their performance. The emphasis of this assessment will be positive; the purpose being to help everyone be the best children’s worker that they can be!

The first year was a great success and we have entered into our second year with a good number of students already enrolled. If you are interested in the training modules or would like more information you can contact us on 01622 687074 or admin@familytrust.org.uk. You can also access the modules by going to the bottom of this page and clicking on training modules.

The Family Trust together with CAST has set up a training school which started in September 2006. This is a full time course which runs for a year and will combine academic learning with practical experience. The aim will be to train and equip people to become children’s workers; people who will be effective in communicating the Good News to children. This is an exciting new venture and it is in response to what we feel God has been saying to us, to pass on our knowledge and experience to others.

Those involved in the teaching will include members of the Family Trust and CAST as well as church leaders from around the town. The course will be open to anyone of any age who feels that God is calling them to this vital work. Details of the school can be found in the prospectus which is on the downloads page.

Here is the latest update from Richard and our current students:

Hot off the press, news of the Training School……………………..

Richard writes: We are very excited because we have FOUR students enrolled on the  Family Trust/CAST Training Course. This is run in conjunction with a group called “What 4” in Folkestone, and Moorlands Bible College in Bournemouth. It is designed to be a practical hands-on course with the students spending most of their time working in schools and churches alongside the Family Trust and CAST teams. The students attend two residential weeks in Moorlands for ‘Elivate’, which is the academic element of the course. This generates a number of assignments which have to be completed at intervals throughout the year. In addition to this, they will be attending lectures once a month at the What 4 office, and with the Family Trust.
This all represents a fantastic answer to prayer, as the FT team have long felt that God was putting training on our hearts, but we were not sure how or when it would happen. This year’s course has got off to a great start; please pray that it continues in this way, and that at the end of it the students feel fulfilled, and equipped to do the work that God has called them to do.

Yvette says: I thank God that through The Family Trust I have been given a great opportunity not only to grow in my relationship with Jesus but to serve Him as well. I love the fact that we do this in a way that is fun and greatly rewarding.
I believe it is important for children to be given the chance to come to know the God that loves them so much and a privilege to be part of a team that does this so well.
Humanly speaking it would have been impossible for me to do this course but God has made it possible for me even down to providing the exact amount of money!

Jason says: My Journey with God had been going through a rocky time, I had just come out of a relationship and I was disappointed that it had not worked out. Suddenly where there had been plans for my future there was nothing.  I felt confused as I did not know what God wanted me to do next. During this period my church leader handed me a leaflet advertising a year’s training in youth and children's work with the Family Trust. I was already  working at the youth club they hold on a Friday night. I enjoyed helping out but had never really thought that I would be any good at children's work, so I put the leaflet to the bottom of a pile of paper work on my desk. After a few days I started thinking and praying more about this course, and every time I did the leaflet seemed to make its way to the top of the pile! Because this kept happening I really felt that I should do something about it so I decided to pick up the phone and to find out some more information. Before I phoned I said to God, “ If this is what you want me to do it will work out”.   It did work out and God has given me a new direction in life and I am sure this journey will have its ups and downs, but the one thing I am sure of , it is God’s will and with God all things are possible!

Emma says: I have been attending church for about ten years but have only really been a Christian for about two! I was a bit stuck with where my life was heading and finding it hard to settle in a job. I did some work experience with the Family Trust and CAST and really thought it was something I would be good at.  It seemed that God had called me into this and I am looking forward to the next year, getting into assemblies, Kingsquads and all the rest of the work!
The Elivate course came at the perfect time for me when I really needed to be gaining confidence and out of the negative place I was in. Thanks to the Family Trust and CAST for this fantastic opportunity and I look forward to growing in faith over the next year.

Hi my name is Emily and I go to the Beacon Church. A few months ago I had a dream. I was standing in a desert place in the middle of a crossroads. All of a sudden a guy called Todd Bentley  ( he is an evangelist and prophet ) stood in front of me and said,” Do you want to see more of the power of God?” I responded, “Yes!” So he took my hand and we flew, with the wind in my face and after a while I was in the playground of a Catholic primary School. My immediate reaction was, “Whoo, I am a child again”. But as I ran up to a small group of children, I realised I was still an adult.
Attached to this school were some churches, I think one was a Baptist, a C of E, Jubilee and a Manna church. In my dream I was staying at the school and in my room I had notes from my family and I remember thinking that they all knew exactly where I was even though I didn’t!
The following week I was in church, I opened the FT Index and the words “Is it time for you” jumped out at me! This was the advert for the “Elivate” course.
I started praying about the course. My spirit said YES but everything around me posed the question HOW! ( I have a husband, 3 children, a dog, cat rabbit and plenty of other commitments!)
I continued praying for some kind of confirmation. Was this really what God wanted for my life?
Then I had another dream and at the end God said, ”Try it and see if you like it”
So I decided to go for it. God never forces us into anything. He made me the way I am and He knows me better than I know myself!   I am trusting Him for this next year!
